Honey Lemon Fried Halloumi

Halloumi, with its delightful ability to hold its shape under heat, makes for an excellent candidate for marinating and frying. This recipe takes the robust and salty flavors of halloumi and infuses them with a sweet and tangy marinade of honey, lemon, and thyme, creating a perfectly balanced dish. Ideal for a simple yet elegant appetizer or a tasty snack, this grilled halloumi will impress guests and satisfy your cravings with its crispy exterior and flavorful burst.


Ingredients -

- 200 grams halloumi cheese

- 2 tablespoons honey

- Juice of half a lemon

- 2-3 sprigs of thyme, cut into smaller pieces

- Olive oil for frying


Instructions -

1. In a small spill-proof container, mix together the honey, lemon juice, and thyme to create the marinade.

2. Cut the halloumi into 1 cm thick slices. Place the slices in the container with the marinade. Use a small container to ensure the marinade covers most of the cheese. Shake well to coat evenly.

3. Store the marinated halloumi in the refrigerator. For the best flavor, marinate overnight, though a few hours will also work. Occasionally shake the container and turn it upside down to ensure even marination.

4. Heat some olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Once hot, add a few pieces of halloumi, being careful not to overcrowd the pan. Fry until one side is golden brown, about 3 minutes.

5. Flip the halloumi and fry for another 2 minutes. During the last minute of cooking, spoon some of the marinade over the cheese to enhance its flavor. Remove the cooked halloumi to a cooling rack.

6. Serve the halloumi warm, using the remaining marinade as a dipping or drizzling sauce. Enjoy!
